MEMBERSHIP! WOULDN'T YOU LIKE TO JOIN US?

Membership in The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is by invitation. To qualify for active membership women educators must have at least three years active service in education. Women who have retired within the past two years also still qualify for regular active membership.

The process for becoming a member is simple. Prospective members are recommended by a current member at the September meeting. Their credentials are presented, and the membership votes whether to extend an invitation to membership. The sponsor or the prospective member--the member who presented the recommendation--then delivers an official invitation to membership from the chapter president.

The prospective member is invited first to attend the October membership meeting, where she will learn about the history, functions, and purposes of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She is expected to reply with her decision in writing to the chapter president within a few days of the October meeting. Initiates are inducted into membership in November with full ceremony, thus becoming full members with all the rights, privileges, and responsibilities thereof.

Dues for the international organization are paid with the chapter dues and have remained near $70 to $71 for the last several years. Dues are paid yearly before Oct. 1; failure to pay dues, of course, negates membership although reinstatement is available. Dues and costs are somewhat more during the initiation year, when the initiate purchases her keypin, her yearbook binder, and her chapter badge upon which the keypin shall be worn.

Qualifications for reserve membership are determined by International. Should a member become infirm and therefore unable to attend meetings or move to an area where no Delta Kappa Gamma chapter resides, then she shall be presented to the chapter for acceptance. Reserve membership is for active members who meet the criteria; members are not initiated into the chapter as reserve members.

If you would like further information about Sigma Chapter and membership in The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, please contact any officer for an invitation to attend a meeting as our guest.
