 Mary Beth Edelson is an internationally known artist, and a prominent leader in the 1970s feminist art movement. During the 1970’s, Edelson addressed the circumstances of feminist art production through posters, collages, performance, drawings, oil paintings, video, photographs and chiffon fabric. She updated the exhibit with recent works, which examine the current status of women in regards to religion, popular culture and politics. Edelson is particularly interested in analyzing women's roles in Hollywood films and re-presents these female images outside of their original contexts. She has permanent collections at the Guggenheim Museum of Art (New York City, N.Y.), Walker Art Center (Minneapolis, Minn), National Museum of American Art (Washington, D.C.) and Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago, Ill.). |
