Ms. Freeman-Wilson graduated from Gary Roosevelt High School in 1978 and went on to receive her undergraduate degree with honors from Harvard University and her law degree from Harvard Law School. Between 1989 and 1992, she was the director of the Indiana Civil Rights Commission. She was a drug court judge for the City of Gary, a public defender, the chief legal officer for the State of Indiana, the director of the Indiana Office of Drug Control Policy and was appointed the Attorney General of the State of Indiana in 2000. She ran for mayor of Gary in the 2003 primary. She also runs her own law practice.
