He attended grade school at St. Mary’s in East Chicago, Indiana, and high school at Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond, Indiana. Skafish begins classical piano studies with a blind teacher at age 6, and is immediately considered a child prodigy/genius.
Skafish (Jim Skafish) was perhaps the very first proponent of this "bare it all" and "no holds barred" sensibility. Acknowledged as the sole originator and Godfather of Chicago’s punk, new wave, alternative and indie rock movements during the 1970's, Skafish took these art forms on a worldwide level. Skafish was a pioneer decades ahead of his time, irrevocably changing the face of Chicago music and culture, opening the door for all punk, new wave, alternative and indie rock artists to have their voices heard worldwide.
