Thank you for the opportunity to introduce our program to you.
We are the Merrillville Youth Basketball Junior Pirates, Inc. - a nonprofit corporation, composed completely of volunteers from the President to the Board of Directors to the Coaches. - all volunteering to make an impact on the youth on our community. The true beneficiary from the donation of time and effort is the children.
We are working diligently to make this the best youth basketball league! The league has been designed for girls & boys from Kindergarten through 8th grade. The program will play all of its games at Merrillville High School and participants will practice in the Merrillville School System. This is the only program endorsed by the Merrillville School Corporation - Board of Directors and the Merrillville High School Athletic Department. The Merrillville High School Boys Basketball Head Coach (Jim East) & Merrillville High School Girls Basketball Head Coach (Joe Poteet) serve as consultants for the league.
The objective of the league is to teach the fundamentals of basketball and to reaffirm the meaning of TEAM - "Together Everyone Achieves More". From our perspective it is essential that we provide positive role models for the young women and young men that participate in this program.
