Community Outreach
is our No. 1 Priority!

History

Gladys Frye founded Human Services in August 1997. After working in the community of Gary, Indiana for the past 20 years, she often felt that there were many problems that faced her community. Some of these problems include the beast of poverty, teen pregnancy, gang violence and the deterioration of family values. So with limited funds and some community support, she formed a not-for-profit organization that will at least slow down the progress of some of these problems. Human Services was created. With the changing welfare reform laws that were passed recently by Congress, very few social service agencies were willing to add any additional safety for people who would eventually fall through the cracks. With that in mind, our organization could at least provide a supportive link to:

  • Employment that was considered out of the public transportation system.

  • Transportation to health clinics and doctor's appointments.

  • Transportation for the elderly for shopping and to visit those who are considered sick or shut ins.

  • Provide transportation to local shelters for the homeless.

  • Work with emergency disaster crews assisting fire victims.

  • Provide donated food or prepared meals for the disabled.

  • Provide and transport donated clothing for families.

  • Provide emergency shelter for homeless and/or abused women.

In conclusion, Human Services will continue to be a beacon within the community, helping those who are unable to get help themselves.
