2006 Criteria for Scholarships that were presented
The scholarship types and amounts awarded each year varies depending upon donations received during the year. The list below represent the ones that were awarded and are typical of the types that might be available in 2007.
Highland Clerk/Treasurer Citizenship/IUN Loyalty Scholarship-$400
Citizenship and involvement in community service.
The Highland Chamber of Commerce:Mrs. Chris Hubbard Memorial Scholarship-$1,000:
Criteria used for selection
- The recipient must be in the upper 50% of the class.
- Financial need should be a consideration.
- Money may be used for attendance at any college, technical or trade school.
- Money will be awarded upon receipt of proof of enrollment in school.
The Johnston Elementary School PTO Scholarship(s)-2-$500:
Criteria used for selection
- Student must have attended Johnston Elementary School for 3 years (force transfer and GT count as home school)
- GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Person/people who are not receiving a scholarship from another foundation.
The Merkley Elementary School PTC Scholarship-1-$500:
Student must have attended Merkley Elementary School for 6th grade, plus two other years.
The Southridge Elementary PTO Scholarship-1- $500:
The student must have attended Southridge 3 yrs.
Student must be involved in extra-curricular activities, have an A-B average, and show financial need.
The Southridge Elementary Student Council Scholarship-$400:
The following criteria is considered: greatest need, GPA, and Total Points.
The Highland Middle School PTA Scholarship-1-$300:
The student must have attended HMS for both years and their parents must be past or present members of the HMS PTA.
The Highland Rotary Scholarship-$4000/4 yrs.:
A student who exhibits the following:
- Good citizenship
- financial need
- involved in community activities
- has good grades.
(Renewable scholarship for 4years- $1000 per year)
The Highland Kiwanis Scholarship-3-$500:
A student who has been involved in community organizations and volunteer work.
The Highland Kiwanis Key Club Scholarship-1-$500-
A student who has been active in the HHS Key Club..
The Darlene Anderson Memorial Scholarship-$1,000:
Criteria used for selection
- Former Southridge student who is planning to major in education or nursing.
The Melvyn Anderson Memorial Scholarship -$1,000:
A diligent math/science student. This student need not be the top student in the class but rather someone who has worked hard and reached out above what would have come easily to him/her. (financial need will not be a part of the criteria)
Ashley Charlotte Ritz Memorial Scholarship $500 & $1000
Student must be 1/3 of their class academically Student must be a resident of the Town of Highland (5yrs) Provide proof of completion of 100 hrs of community service,at a minimum of 25hrs per year for the previous four yrs.
Kathy Nowicki Memorial Scholarship $500
HHS Student interested in science.
Paul Callaway III Memorial Scholarship $500
HHS student interested in a music field or has a music backround
Turoci Scholarship- $500

McFarland Scholarship $500 & $1000
Same criteria as HDFS Academic Scholarship
The Optomist Club of Hammond $1000
Same criteria as HDFS Academic Scholarship Financial need
Haley Scholarship $500
Same criteria as HDFS Academic Scholarship
The Dollars for Scholars Academic Scholarship(s)- 23- $500:
Criteria used for selection
- Student must be a Highland resident
- Student must have "B" average
The Strack & VanTil & Ultra Foods Scholarship-2-$500:
Student must show financial need.
The Nicewander Scholarships -$12,000/4yrs.
Criteria used for selection
- Student must show financial need
- Interest in engineering or education
- Maintain "B" average in post-secondary work
- Teacher recommendation required.
- An official transcript showing the grade, the current GPA and major must be submitted to Highland Dollars for Scholars each year to renew the scholarship.
(Remewable scholarship $3000 per year)
The Highland Building Skills Scholarship-3-$1,000:
Students must be planning to continue training in a vocational program and be a HHS Student.
The Highland Dollars for Scholars Memorial Scholarship-$500:
Academic Achievement
The Creative Hairstyling Academy Scholarship-$500:
Student with at least a "C" average.
Mr. Martin Kessler Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
A student who has been involved in the music program while in high school and plans to attend a Big 10 school.
Sand Ridge Bank - $500
Same as HDFS Scholarships
Highland Dollars for Scholars Adult Scholarship
Highland resident over the age of 25yr. Must be enrolled in a undergraduate degree program.
