Who Pays for Interpreting Services?
Deaf people are not responsible to pay for interpreting fees. If an organization or a business receives Federal funds, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 mandates they pay the interpreter fees. In addition, the Americans with Disabilities Act states that public or private entities are required to provide and pay for "auxiliary aids and services," which includes qualified interpreters for individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Contact DSI for a current fee schedule for interpreter fees.
