What is
the purpose of Al-Anon/Alateen?
To
help families and friends of alcoholics recover from the effects of
living with the problem drinking of a relative or friend.
Similarly, Alateen is our recovery program for young people whose lives
have been affected by someone else's drinking. Alateen groups are
sponsored by Al-Anon members.
Our program
of recovery is adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous and is
based upon the
Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions and Twelve
Concepts of Service.
The only
requirement for membership is that there be a problem of
alcoholism in a relative or friend. Whether the
alcoholic is still drinking or not, Al-Anon offers hope and
recovery to all people affected by the family disease of
alcoholism.
To the Potential
Newcomer...
Your
inquiry is confidential and anonymous. If you are
concerned about someone else's drinking, we encourage you to
browse our website for information about our program and
attend a meeting as soon as you can.
Help is
here for the asking. Please take a moment to ask
yourself these questions:
"Has someone else's drinking
created chaos in your life?", "Are you troubled by someone's
drinking?", or "Did you grow up with a problem drinker?"
If you identify with some of these statements, it is
important to know that help and hope for friends and
families of alcoholics is just a phone call away.
You may
call the Northwest Indiana Al-Anon Answering Service 24
hours a day, 7 days a week at (219) 769-1133. If
it is after regular business hours, you will hear a
recording and be given a phone list of after-hour contacts.
