LakeNET is a community website and database devoted to "All Things, Lake and Porter County, Indiana".
The LakeNET website contains over 5,000 links to websites containing valuable information about Lake and Porter County, Northwest Indiana, the Calumet Region, the state of Indiana and more.
Visit our directory of community links here. You can search by category or use the keyword search box on the lower left hand corner of every LakeNet page. We are currently expanding the information contained in our entries and adding new items.
We also produce a comprehensive calendar of events which includes fundraisers, events for children, festivals, bands, concerts, library events and much more. Our calendar is available on any LakeNet page. Look for the "calendar image" in the left column of the menu.
LakeNET is a cooperative effort by representatives of several organizations in Lake County, including the Lake County Public Library and Lake Area United Way.
LakeNET was made possible, in 1996, by a grant from Access Indiana, an initiative of the Governor's office in cooperation with the Indiana Department Of Education.
In 2004, LakeNET purchased a new server, created a new database which allowed our members to update their own websites and allowed us to expand our website greatly. In 2007, we received a grant from the Legacy Foundation to make improvements to our site, including adding Joomla! software to manage our content and a web re-design, which was posted on July 1, 2008.
LakeNET does not have a yearly budget. We rely on grants and business sponsorships to pay for our hosting.
Help us stay online...Businesses and local not-for-profits can receive great advertising opportunities on LakeNET by becoming a sponsor for a nominal fee. Your support helps us stay online and continue serving the community.
LakeNET also creates, updates and posts free websites for not-for-profit organizations in Northwest Indiana. Here are our members. Benefits of having an organizational web site include the ability to refer clients to your informational brochures via the Internet, post job openings, make your services known to the community, advertise your fundraisers and events. Plus clients have instant access to you via E-mail 24/7.
Our Mission
The purpose of LakeNET is to maintain a community-based network of local interactive information resources in order to support an improved quality of life, regional economic development and better governance for Lake and Porter County residents and for those who use our site through the Internet.
Our goal is to gather, organize and publish information about Northwest Indiana so that the citizens of the Calumet Region, as well as the world, will know what our communities have to offer.
